#15 Make Strawberry Jam

How to make Jylos Jam (Strawberry)

1) get three pints of organic strawberries from the farmer’s market

2) Get 1/2 cup, or more, sugar cubes

3) Wash and hull the strawberries

4) Cook strawberries for 3 hours, stirring every 15 minutes and watch strawberries change

5) When done add 1/2 cup, or more, of sugar cubes

6) Let cool, can and refrigerate and get ready for sharing.

7) ENJOY!

#19 Make a bucket list

I loved doing this. It made me realize how amazing my life has been and how kinda awesome I am! If I wanted to do something, I almost always did it! So, though it took me a while to come up with things I haven’t done, I’m happy with this 6 item list! I’m even happier that it’s not longer!

Enjoy (I did)!

1) Sky dive
2) Visit Austrailia
3) be fruitful and multiply
4) be fluent in a third language
5) Start a(nother) fashion trend (yes, that skirt over pants thing was all me!)
6) Be an abolishionist

#14 Fix Something

For the past couple of months, Mila was driving around with a broken visor. (Not advisable during the hot California Summer!

So I pulled out the handy-dandy tool box and went to town!

When it was completed I felt like the coolest, strongest girl in the world!

20 things in 20 Days

As of July 22, there will be 20 days left until my birthday.

Here’s what I’m going to do in those 20 day:

1. Go on a hike
2. Make something from the Food Network
3. Trade shoes with a friend (FOREVER)
4. Unplug for a day (No electronics)
5. Write a story and post it on the blog
6. Make a card and send it
7. Read a book in a day
8. Make a craft
9. Call a friend that I haven’t talked to in a long time
10. Take a picture of everything I eat for a day
11. Volunteer
12. Interview someone
13. Spend the day in LA
14. Fix something
15. Make Strawberry Jam
16. Listen to someone’s favorite CD with them
17. Give myself a pedicure
18. Go to a movie by myself
19. Make a bucket list
20. Spend 3 straight days without going on facebook

Pronounced: Beatri-che

When it comes to the intangible, I think I’m pretty creative. I’ve been told once or twice that I have a way with words… . Whether it be making up songs on the spot worthy of Youtube hits, or fairytales involving Princess Beatrice (pronounced Beatri-che), I have to say I really enjoy letting my imagination soar. Visual creativity is something else all together. This is not a talent that I posess, and I’m learning to live with that. So many of my friends can create with their hands and their minds, rather than with the latter alone, and it’s a trait that I admire and envy all at the same time.

However, I do try to dabble here and there….

My most recent attempt was use of the “crop” function in my picture editing software. This is not something I typically do, unless I’m trying to get a facebook profile pic from a particularly flattering group picture. I chose this picture for my experiment.

It was taken during a drive through the California desert with two of my favorite girls. When I entered the crop function, I noticed something interesting. A small window appears that focuses what you want in the picture and fades out what you dislike. Once you choose what you consider to be the best qualities of the snapshot, the program does away with what you don’t like and magnifies what you do.

It got me thinking how much I focus on the negative and on things I don’t like about a person or a situation. Even if there are positive elements, they are always overshadowed by the negative. But what if I always chose to magnify the good and eventally do away with the bad of aspects of situations I’m not happy to be in or people I’m not particularly found of. What if, rather than only see what’s wrong, I take time to look for what is particulary amazing!

The result might just take my breath away!

It’s never been a secret that moving to California was not an option that I was happy with. This place just isn’t me. I love the East Coast, in general; New York City, in particular. So, I’ve been a little down the past 10 months to say the least.

But God keeps on insisting:

During Spring Break I was stuck by myself in Boston, which would normally be great, but I was carrying around a 40lb suitcase, it was raining and I had leaky boots on. The guy at the Verizon Store was nice enough to take my suitcase, and I was able to pop into the starbucks a few blocks down for a coffee, a lemon bar and an opportunity to bemoan my existence. By sheer “happenstance” I sat next to a guy and a girl, who were talking just a little too loud for my pleasure. Then, I realized they were talking about God. Then I realized, they were talking about me. The guy said, “I used to live in Philadelphia. Then God sent me to Worcester (Ma). Those years were the hardest and the loneliest of my life. But I learned so much about myself, and about God. I’m not the same Terry as I was when I got there.” I hope to one day say the exact same sentence, with minor detail changes (the use of my name, for example)

So, dear friends and loved ones, here’s my attempt to share my adventures on the west coast with you. Cause really, any place where I can find a hat this fancy can’t be THAT BAD! right?
